Hey mommy whats back here?!?! |
Carter is now actively crawling and getting into more and more stuff! So, it’s about that time we take this baby proofing thing a little more seriously. So far we have done a couple of things but nothing major. We have replaced our coffee table with a softer storage ottoman since he kept falling and hitting his head/face on the corners of the coffee table. We also put corner protectors on the TV stand, but he still can pull himself up there and loves pushing all the buttons!
One major thing we need to do is figure out what to do with all our plugs and wires! We have a speaker system so there are wires going all over the place, plus the cable plug is across the room from where the TV is (and no, we cannot move the TV, because of the way our house is set up!) We also have a ton of stuff plugged into a power strip: TV, cable dvr, playstation, sound system etc!
We also have this weird stair thing going from the living room into the dining room, it’s 2 steps up. We could put a baby gate across the top, but there is no place to put one across the bottom stair, because it is so wide across! Not to mention the 2 other staircases we have, since we live in a 3 story home! Ack!
So that’s a short version of our baby proofing to do list! Plus kitchen cabinets, drawers, and other random things he is bound to get into at some point!
What are your best tips for baby proofing?
Good luck! We didn't really do much baby proofing at all and it worked out fine. We put cabinet locks on the cabinet under the sink and one cabinet in the bathroom and that was about it. I started out with outlet covers, but she figured out how to pull those out pretty quickly and I found that if I just took them out she wasn't interested in the outlets anymore. The two stair thing sounds tricky. Phoebe just learned she wasn't allowed to go up or down the stairs by herself so we never really gated our stair cases either. And she learned pretty quickly she wasn't allowed to touch wires. We did put a cushion thing around the hearth because I was afraid of a brick in her head. We had some falls around the coffee table but nothing too major 🙂
I remember starting this! I feel like we spent a small fortune at Babies R Us because my daughter was into everything (and still is)! We have almost the same type set up in our house (i think) and we bought this big swing gate from Amazon that blocks off the stair area where there are one set up stairs going up and another going down. So she is in our living room/dining area and kitchen on the main level. We bought huge outlet covers that cover the whole outlet and wires…like a small box. Happy proofing!
We didn't really do that much either. We baby proofed the kitchen cabinets and drawers, but we didn't do anything about the cables. She was never really into those anyway. We didn't have stairs until Leonie was about 3 but we didn't put anything in front of the stairs when we moved into our new home. All I did was secure them upstairs so she wouldn't fall in case she got up at night. Just go with your guts, that's always the best thing when it comes to baby/ child related decisions! xxx
I don't have any tips (sorry!) but good luck! I imagine it must be quite stressful lol!
Oh wait, my friend got the cabinet thingys, that were hard for grownups to open so even better for us. They attach at the top of the inside cabinet. They worked perfectly!
We haven't baby proofed yet…still waiting on that glorious day when Aymen Grace starts crawling!!
I found some neat ideas on Pinterest for the plugs/power strips. We are a techy household so we have lots of things plugged in to baby proof in the next few months. Here are my favorites!

We didn't do much baby-proofing. We did put outlet covers on and blocked the bookcase (just to prevent a book mess on the floor at all hours of the day), but that's about it. We didn't have the power cord problem, because our cords are all behind a closed entertainment center. There are some great cord covers, though, and they're not expensive. Good luck!
