Okay here goes. I’ve been debating writing this post because, well, it involves pictures of me in a bikini, post baby! And here is it:
That’s me! In a bikini! For all the world to see. Ack!
My pondering: Whether or not there is an age limit on bikinis. How old is too old to wear a bikini?
As I started going through my twenties I saw a definite change in the way I dressed and wanted to dress. I started to feel like I was “too old” to wear certain clothing. Too old for midriff shirts (sorry husband). Too old for “booty” shorts. Crop tops I had no problem with wearing in college have all made their way to donation bins. Now, just to clarify, I am not sitting here with my shirt buttoned up to my chin with pleated mom jeans on! I do have a sense of fashion, and I do wear shorts, v-necks, short dresses etc. My point is, there are certain styles out there that I just feel like “are for the kids” so to speak, and certain fashions that I am maybe just a little too old for.
But, too old for a bikini? I don’t think so!
I can’t help but wonder why it makes such a difference though. A bikini shows off way more skin than a midriff shirt or too-short shorts! It shows your every flaw and every curve. There is no hiding when you’re in a bikini! But, I don’t want to hide! And then, I had a baby, and my whole body was different and always will be. But that doesn’t stop me from wearing a bikini, even if I do have a little bit of “extra” than I used to!
I just wonder why some clothes, in my mind, are not age appropriate at 31, but I think a bikini is just fine? And at what age does a bikini become “not appropriate”? I tend to think it’s appropriate until you don’t feel comfortable in it, but on the other hand do you really want to see an 80 year old in a bikini? So, whats the limit?
Chime in! What do you think about my “bikini whether” question?
