Some years it is harder than others to get into the Christmas spirit. To be honest, Christmas time can be extra stressful and expectations are usually high! I also set up expectations for how the holidays are “supposed” to go and how I am “supposed” to feel during this time as well! I’m sure I am not the only one who has felt this way at least one year during Christmas time! I this part of it is just trying too hard
This year has been a lot different though! I’ve been listening to Christmas music like crazy, decorated the house on time and how I wanted and even sent out my cards in time! I think a lot of it has to do with having a kid and now that he is a little older (older than last Christmas at least!) we can do more “Christmas-ey” things that he can enjoy, too! Despite being a mixed religion couple, my husband is very supportive of my wanting to decorate and celebrate! He enjoys making (and eating) Christmas cookies with me and every year we make gingerbread houses with our friends!
What do you do to get into the holiday spirit?
The day after Thanksgiving we went to the Comcast Center in Philly and saw the holiday show! They have a big wall that is made up of a screen and they do shows on it year round and a special one for the holidays! Carter was mesmerized by the show as we walked up the stairs. He also has his first cannoli there, which he loved!
We also got to meet Santa at the Comcast Center! Carter did pictures with Santa at the mall last year for his first Christmas but I decided not to splurge on that this year. This Santa didn’t charge for pictures but Carter was a little unsure about the whole thing so daddy held him while we met Santa!
Carter LOVES wrapping paper! Every night for Hanukkah he got presents and loved unwrapping them! At our holiday party someone brought us housewarming gifts and stuck them behind our tree. Carter found those suckers right away and pulled them out and happily began unwrapping them! Needless to say, it was basically impossible to wrap presents with him around!
My gingerbread houses this year. Not the most creative I’ve even done but still good enough!
I hope to next year do even more holiday activities to get us into the holiday spirit!
