In August we bought a zoo membership, which paid for itself in one visit, and we have been waiting all winter to go back! Finally the weather was “good enough” (50 degrees, mostly sunny) this past weekend so we headed there on Saturday morning!
One of the things that is really awesome at the Philly Zoo is the kids areas that they have! Since I’m a member, I could just go randomly during the week and go to these indoor play areas! But, I always forget about them until we go there again as a family and take advantage of them!
One area is the Kids Zoo U, which has a petting zoo area outside with goats and a “farm” area with chickens and miniature horses. Inside they have a lot of activities for kids!
sorry so blurry, it’s an “action shot” |
Carter loved the giant ant tunnel! He ran back and forth with the other kids and loved picking up and throwing the ant “eggs” and food around!
Best part of the zoo for Carter: the kid size sink! He looooves playing in the water and washing his hands and this was the perfect height for him. Too bad the water “didn’t work!” (cough, cough)
They also have a “tiny tot” play area for kids under 3! They have animals to sit on and buttons to push that make animal noises!
Carter loved checking out all the monkeys! He sat a stared at the gorilla for a really long time! (and yes I know this picture is not a gorilla!) I liked this part, too, because it was kind of chilly with the wind and the monkey house is inside!
Another indoor play area for kids is the Treehouse play area. Carter loved crawling through the tunnels and sitting in the dinosaur eggs.
Best part of the zoo, part 2, getting to drink water from a straw at lunchtime!
This is my favorite picture! Usually the polar bear is just sitting around so it was great to see him up and about! All the kids around us were hoping he would jump in the water.
Last but not least we saw the zebras! It’s kind of strange seeing zebras running around in the snow!
So that was our little visit to the zoo this weekend. Because it was warmer, there were a ton of people there! I would say about 1 stroller per every third person! I am looking forward to heading to the zoo during the weekdays sometimes in hopes of it being less crowded!
