When we first had our baby, we had tons of stuff on our changing table. Over time you come to realize what’s really necessary on a day to day basis and that you really don’t need everything under the sun! Using Carter’s dresser as the changing table helps too, because we can store extra diapers, medicine and the thermometer in the drawers below!
Here are 5 things I think are “must haves” for your changing table!
1. A toy
After a couple of “down there” grabs, you will realized why a toy is necessary! Distraction is key, especially with a older, more willful active baby! My son likes to grab everything in reach, everything, including the wipes, hand sanitizer, diaper rash cream, you name it! So, it’s nice to have something to give him to play with!
2. Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer comes in very useful on the changing table! Early on, many parents use it all the time, so it’s just nice to have some handy in your baby’s room. You know, so all those germy visitors can clean their hands before touching bay! But now, its just great to have for a quick germ clean up once and awhile. Carter loves using it, too, although you shouldn’t overuse it!
3. Diaper rash cream
Even at almost two years old Carter still gets diaper rash. If he eats something too spicy, or too citrus-ey he gets it! It’s much easier to just keep it handy on the table than having to go fishing around for when we do need it!
4. A Basket
We received our basket as a gift from our good friends when we found out we were pregnant and have used it to help organize the changing table ever since! It’s just nice to keep everything together instead of having piles of diapers falling all over! I keep extra stock of diapers in the top drawer and refill my basket as needed!
5. Diapers and wipes, of course
Everyone has their favorites! We keep the wipes out on the table, ready for action. Right now we are using diapers and wipes from Seventh Generation. They are chlorine, fragrance and ink free and hypoallergenic. I really enjoyed the wipes I received from them because they are thick and soft at the same time, fragrance free and hypoallergenic. The wipes really came in handy when Carter had diaper rash last week and couldn’t stand being wiped with our other brand of wipes, which stung his rash too much! The Seventh Generation wipes seemed a lot more soothing to him!
