I’ve been hosting Thanksgiving for a couple of years now, and while I’m no expert I do have a few tips to share to make the day easier! Besides planning ahead and keeping it simple, check out my 5 tips below!
Tip #1: Do all your baking ahead of time!
Any baking you need to do- pie, breads, cookies etc, you should do the day before (or days, depending on how much you have to make)! This frees up the oven for the main show and all those tasty sides, so you don’t have to worry about monopolizing precious oven time needed for the turkey, and cooking temperatures won’t be compromised.
Tip #2: Have activities for the kids!
When the kids are waiting and waiting for dinner to be served, it’s great to have a few easy activities planned out for them to do. Try my turkey suncatchers or Thanksgiving coloring pages!
Tip #3: Adults need activities, too!
Besides sitting around and catching up, it might be nice to have activities for everyone to do together! You could set up some games like Apples to Apples, play football outside, watch parades together on TV or even watch football. Even something as simple as a walk around the neighborhood is a great activity to head off the “stir crazy” and burn some of those calories, too!
Tip #4: Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
Guess what? You don’t actually have to do it all yourself! See all those people sitting on the couch watching football or playing Apples to Apples? They can help! Ask your mother in law to make the gravy, get your husband to set the table and ask that friend to refresh the drinks. Trust me, no one will hold it against you and you will be much less stressed out.
Tip #5: Have plenty of wine!
Wine for you. Wine for them. Wine for me. Keep it flowin! Need more convincing? Read this post by Wine in Mom!
