One thing I’m known for among my friends is always having unique fancy gelatin ready at all my parties! I’ve even had friends request that I bring gelatine treats to their parties when I ask them what to bring! So, our Big Game game watch party is no exception! For game day this year I decided to make candy based fancy gelatin using Skittles® candy!
- 1 package Original or Wild Berry Skittles
- 1 package flavored gelatin of your choice
- 1 cup ginger ale or similar soda (be sure to measure out a full cup, allowing the fizz to settle and adding more as needed!)
- slightly over 1 cup water
First, measure out 1/2 cup of Skittles of one color. You could use all the colors together, but that would turn your gelatin kind of an ugly color. I went with red and pink for this recipe, since I chose cherry flavored gelatin.
Next, throw a big handful from the remaining Skittles into a plastic baggy and put it in the freezer for later.
Add 1 cup plus a little extra of water and the 1/2 cup of Skittles to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring often so the candy doesn’t stick to the bottom.
While water is coming to a boil add the gelatin powder to a medium bowl.
Once the water is boiling and Skittles have almost all dissolved, pour the water through a mesh colander into a measuring cup until you get one cup of Skittles flavored water. The filtering is important so you don’t have any candy residue. Add the hot water to the bowl with the gelatin powder and still until fully dissolved.
Add 1 cup of ginger ale to the gelatin mixture and stir gently until fully incorporated.
Carefully pour the mixture into 2 ounce cups. I like to set them out on a tray first for easy transport to the fridge! This makes approximately 15 two ounce cups, depending on how full you make them. Allow the gelatin to set in the fridge at least 4 hours, overnight is even better!
Now, remember that baggy of Skittles you had set aside in the freezer earlier? Pull it out right before you serve the gelatin. Take a hammer or hard spoon and crunch up the frozen Skittles. Sprinkle them on as a topping and you’re ready to serve!
For my Big Game party I added some cute football picks to decorate each one!
Here’s my Big Game treat tray! I included the SNICKERS on the treat tray as a little extra snack for those who wanted a treat but maybe didn’t like gelatin.
I shared my Sparkling Skittles Gelatin recipe with you, now I’d love to hear your plans for the Big Game! What treats do you plan to make for your Big Game party?
