One thing my son has been loving lately is making smoothies! Yesterday he asked for a smoothie and pushed a dining room chair into the kitchen, declaring “I like to help you!” I let him peel the banana and drop all the fruit in and then we push the button on the blender together.
Most of the smoothies we make are fruit, yogurt and some kind of juice- very simple and yummy! Making smoothies with your kids would be a fun treat for Valentine’s Day, so I came up with three smoothies kids would love, which can all be made as special Valentine treats or just an everyday special snack! Just as yummy as Valentine’s candy, except better because they have fruit!
Sweetheart Smoothie:
Blend together:
- 1/2 – 3/4 cup frozen raspberries
- 5-6 good sized strawberries
- 1 single serving vanilla yogurt*
- 1/2 cup of apple juice (more or less depending on your preference)**
For a Valentine’s Day treat, top with whipped cream and pink sprinkles!
*I use low fat vanilla yogurt in all my smoothies because I like it the best. You could also use Greek vanilla yogurt, which has more protein.
**For the juice in any recipe, I don’t exactly measure it, I just kind of wing it! I put in enough to be about halfway covering all the other stuff. Then, add a splash more as needed if it’s not blending easy enough. More juice = thinner smoothie.
You Are My Sunshine Smoothie
Blend Together:
- 1 cup frozen fruit that is orange/yellow color- I used mango and peaches, but you could also use pineapple!
- 1 banana
- 1 vanilla yogurt
- 3/4 cup Orange Juice
Berry Purple Smoothie:
Blend Together:
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1 vanilla yogurt
- 1/2 cup apple juice OR apple-blueberry juice
Enjoy!
What’s your favorite kind of smoothie?
