Last week we started the first of our “color weeks” where we will start learning one color per week by incorporating different activities focusing on one color at a time. I decided to start doing this because Carter names everything as the color “blue,” so I thought it might be a good idea to start focusing on some other colors! For our first color week we started with red.
The first day we worked on some red coloring pages. I created this printable with things that are red and let Carter color them with a red crayon. He also wanted me to help, so we both held the crayon and colored together!

Coloring takes a lot of concentration!
Next we worked on two dot coloring sheets. This is the first time we used our new dot markers and Carter loved it! He loved his pictures so much he kept trying to find daddy to show them off! It took me forever to find the color words dots printables but I finally found them on the blog 3 Dinosaurs!
Next up for our red color week we played with red jello. I made a regular batch of jello and Carter used his senses to explore it! This was the one sensory “bin” activity that I let him eat!
I made some red soap crayons for him to use in his red themed bath later in the week. To make the soap crayons is very easy!
- Simply grate a bar of Ivory soap using a cheese grater.
- Add food coloring and a tiny bit of water and mix until you have the color you desire. Add a little more water if it’s not mixing well.
- You can either hand form the crayons or press the mixture into an ice tray mold for different shapes. Be sure to lightly spray it first, and they will pop right out!
Carter’s favorite part of his red color week was his red sensory bath time! I colored the water red with Crayola bath dropz. I cut different shapes out of red foam and added some of his red foam building blocks to the tub. Last but not least, I placed all the red soap crayons around the tub for him to play with. I wrote the color red and drew the hearts with Crayola bathtub crayons, which rub off the tub very easily!
Next week we are covering the color yellow! Stay tuned for all our color week activities over the next few months!
