Gobble gobble! It’s just a few weeks from Thanksgiving and it’s time to get into the spirit! I remember when I was in elementary school and we always made hand print turkeys for Thanksgiving in school. I thought it would be fun to turn this classic kids Thanksgiving craft into a yummy cookie! So, this week for Mini Chef Monday’s, we created handprint turkey cookies.
Start with your favorite basic sugar cookie recipe, or use store bought dough like we did! Sprinkle flour on your cutting board so the dough doesn’t stick. Roll it out so it’s even, but not too thin.
Have your kid place their (very clean) hand on the dough and spread their fingers apart. Use a butter knife to carefully cut around their hand. If this seems too tedious, you can have your kid make a hand print on a piece of paper, cut it out and then use as a stencil on your cookie dough.
Decorate your turkeys with icing and candy for the feathers. Use brown or black icing to draw on the wings and legs. For the beak I cut orange and red M&Ms in half and stuck them on with icing. Use candy eyes or draw your own eyes on with icing as well.
Serve and enjoy for a festive Thanksgiving treat!
