Happy Valentine’s week! This week for Mini Chef Monday’s we made our own chocolates- which are perfect for Valentine’s Day! If you forgot to buy the chocolates or just prefer to give a homemade gift then these simple, easy to make chocolate candies are for you! These would be great to make with your mini chef to give as gifts to teachers, friends or neighbors for Valentine’s Day! You don’t need any special equipment for these- we used ice cube trays as the candy “molds!”
For the homemade chocolate candy you just need two chocolate bars (we used store brand!), plus extra for decoration as desired. Melt the chocolate bars in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second intervals until fully melted. Stir well.
As you can see, we used fish shaped ice cube trays from Ikea. but any shape will work including the basic ice cube tray shape. It may be a good idea to lightly spray the tray first with some oil so the candy will easily pop out. We didn’t do this and it was hard to get them out.
Spread a little bit of melted chocolate into your ice cube trays in a thin, even, layer. Add your mix ins over the chocolate. We used puffed rice which doesn’t have much flavor but gives the candy a nice crunch! You could add any mix ins of your choice- chopped up nuts, mini marshmallows or even sprinkles!
Last, carefully spread the rest of the chocolate out over the mix in layer in each candy. Transfer to the fridge to set for a few hours, or the freezer if you’re in a rush!
Enjoy! For the topping we melted half a chocolate bar, mixed in a teaspoon of cocoa powder and drizzled it over the chocolates. Top with some sprinkles for extra pizzazz!
What’s your favorite chocolate candy filling?
