Welcome back to Mini Chef Mondays! I’ve noticed that we’ve been doing a lot of dessert type of recipes lately, so I wanted to mix it up with something totally different! So, we made our own play dough with a pizzeria theme to it for mini chefs this week! Homemade play dough is easy enough to make and fun to customize.
Mix all the ingredients in a medium sauce pan. Heat over medium heat, stirring all the time so it doesn’t burn. After awhile you will notice the dough forming as the water starts to cook off. It will become harder to stir and will then form together in a dough ball. At this point, remove it from the heat and dump the dough out onto a cutting board.
Allow the dough to cool a little and then knead it until it’s totally smooth. Add spices to give it scent and texture and knead them in. Then, divide into four parts to make the colors. Add 3-5 drops of food coloring to each dough ball and knead until the color is evenly distributed. If it’s not bright enough you can add a few more drops of coloring. For the pizza theme we made red for sauce and pepperonis, yellow for cheese and green for “veggies.” We left the fourth section white to be the “pizza dough.”
After the colors are added, it’s time to play! Assemble your pizza however you want! We made all sorts of toppings for our pizza such as carrots, broccoli, peppers
This dough is very soft and not too dry. It’s also taste friendly, if you have little ones, although I’m sure it doesn’t taste very good! Store in a plastic container to store and reuse. It will keep for several weeks, or more, although we usually thought it away before then because my son ends up mixing all the colors together (or dropping it on the floor to add dog hair to it!).
