These mojito jello shots use fresh ingredients for the best mojito flavor!
Mojitos are one of my favorite cocktails and if you love them too, then these shots are definitely for you! To make these shots I went ahead and did the real deal! I muddled lime, sugar and mint to make the mojito base so you would get a bright and fresh taste! Mojitos are a great cocktail for spring and summer and a fun party drink! I added the extra mint leaves for garnish for the pictures, but you certainly don’t need them because there’s already mint in the shots. We removed the leaves when we did the shots!
Tips for using plain gelatin, like Knox, to make jello shots:
These shots use knox plain gelatin so the flavor comes from what you put into it. When using plain gelatin be sure to let the gelatin bloom over the cold ingredients before adding in the hot. “Blooming” the gelatin means to let it sit for a few minutes to let the gelatin absorb moisture. In this recipe, for example, simply sprinkle to gelatin over the rum mixutre and let it sit for a few minutes. I like to use a larger meausuring cup or bowl so there’s more surface area to sprinkle to gelatin over. That way, all the gelatin powder will touch liquid. If you skip this step the gelatin won’t dissolve fully into the mixture when you stir it and you’ll have gloopy gelatin pieces in your shots. This could also lead to them not gelling all the way at all!
These mojito jello shots will remind you of tropical summer days or getting drinks at your favorite Cuban restuarant! Use fresh ingredients for best results! While you could use water, I like to use key lime/lime seltzer to give the shots the extra flavor! Since the gelatin is unflavored, the shots will only be what flavor your give them. I like to use the flavored seltzer to give it a little something extra. You could also use lemon-lime soda such as sprite or 7up, but I prefer seltzer because there's already enough sugar!
