Well there has been a little bit going on around here that I have yet to tell you guys about! We have been in the process of buying a house! We are due to close in less than a month, so keep your fingers crossed for us! I will write more on all that later, with pictures after we close! (don’t want to jinx it after all!)
What comes along with buying a new house? Moving of course! And packing, oh the packing. We have moved several times in our life together, so while I am no expert by any means, I do have quite a bit of experience moving!
Since it’s less than a month out, I have definitely been spending some of my “free” (haha) time getting stuff ready. Purging, cleaning, donating, taking beds apart etc. Sometimes it’s easier to stay organized when you have a list so what did I do? I made this handy dandy “Pre Moving” list, and I made it fancy so I could share it with all of you! I left a blank space in each section, too, so you can add things that may be more applicable to your situation.
One thing missing from the first section is the living room “random basket purge.” And we have many! I got ride of about 1 and a half trash bags full of junk from those baskets, donated a bunch of winter stuff and organized everything. The purging and cleaning is kind of a hassle, but I think it’s a really important step so that later when you start packing everything you aren’t packing random junk you don’t need (or trash).
Here are some things I discovered during my house purges over the last week: empty used envelopes, a million pen caps, 10 nail polishes that were so old you couldn’t even tell what color they were, 3 ultra expired tubes of sunscreen, not to mention all the expired medicines, oh and some floppy disc!
Please don’t call Hoarders on me!
If you want the printable emailed to you as a PDF please let me know!

Congratulations!
That's great! Here's a moving tip: 1-3 days post closing before you leave your apartment – Don't pack up the clothes that are in your closet. Just move them on hangers. I can't tell you how many people I know that pack up and fold their current wardrobe. You'll be taking stuff over there yourselves, so just make a pile in the backseat of your car. 🙂 Congratulations! I can't wait to tell Greg!
Here's an UNpacking trick (I've done this once in my 5 moves and has worked the best) once you're in your new house: Put all your boxes in your family room. Put ONLY your furniture in the appropriate rooms. It will force you to unpack them and to do it quickly. Trust me. 🙂
Good luck!!! Definitely purge before your move. We did some before we moved and there is so much more I wish we got rid of that I now have to unpack (still, after 11 months) and purge!
I would LOVE a copy! Could you please email it to me?
love a pdf love your style
Amazing list, any chance i can get a printable copy?
Your pre-moving checklist is really awesome. Could you add more on the checklist related to packing? Packing is also a stressful part of moving to a new house. But here is my trick, I don’t bring my large furniture, what I do with them, is to have a garage sell for them. Then buy another 2nd hand or brand new furniture to replace the old one. This way, I can cut off my expenses in moving.
This is so amazing. Great Tips !! Keep publishing the great content for your blog. Keep writing and sharing your thoughts with us. partyraum Frankfurt-Oder
