Easy Cupcake Party Ideas!

Last week we had a few friends over for a fun party celebrating the birthday of my son’s favorite stuffed animal toy- “Moo Cow.”  I set up a quick and easy cupcake themed party and the kids also decorated their own cupcakes at the party!  Of course this wasn’t a real party, but I thought it would be a fun thing to throw together and my son was so excited to celebrate Moo Cow’s “birthday!”

Here is our main party table.  I made a super easy cupcake banner to hang over the table and also on the back of the chairs at the decorating table.  Just poke a hole through the middle of each cupcake liner, push the string through each and then tape them in place with a small piece of tape on the inside of each!  Easy as cupcakes!

I made a similar decoration with a string of lights!  Just use plain battery operated lights and poke a light through a small hole in each cupcake liner for a super cute and easy themed decoration!  This can be done with any color cupcake liner so you can switch them out for multiple holidays and parties!  The lights I used are meant for decorating poster boards and science fair boards, so they do not get hot and I felt perfectly comfortable using them with the paper liners.

For the tissue paper cupcakes I created tissue paper “pom poms” and taped them onto brown construction paper for the cupcake base.  Then I taped the whole thing onto some plastic cups to help it stand up!

For the pom poms- place two pieces of tissue paper on top of each other and fold them “accordion style.”  Then, cut each of those in half and place one half on top of the other so you have a stack of accordion folded paper.  Tie it in the middle with string and trim the edges round or pointed (your choice!).  Last, carefully fluff out the tissue paper to make the pom pom shape and you’re done!

I found these super cute stuffed toy cakes and cupcakes for all the stuffed animals at the party to enjoy!  I also let each kid take one home as a party favor.  The toy cakes came 4 to a pack with a cardboard cake stand, too, from Ikea.

For the table set up I placed the toy cupcakes out, and cupcake coloring pages for each kid.  Then I added the cupcake banners to the backs of the chairs for extra decoration.  I also put a disposable table cloth to protect my table from all the coloring and icing, and for easy clean up!

After coloring, we decorated our own cupcakes!  I put out plates with cupcake liners filled with sprinkles and chocolate chips so the kids could put whichever ones they wanted on their own cupcakes!  In true Carter fashion, my son opened the blue sprinkles and dumped the whole bottle out on his cupcake!

Cupcake decorating can be messy, but the kids had fun and the cupcakes were delicious!  My son had a great time doing the cupcakes, singing “Happy Birthday” to Moo Cow and playing with his friends!  I did not take pictures of the other kids, but they had fun, too!  The idea behind this party was to have a fun time with very little preparation!  I enjoyed making all the little decorations and they really didn’t take that long to create! They are perfect for a last minute party, you can find something to celebrate every day!

What’s your favorite “every day” celebration?
