Guys how cute are these Frankenstein jello shots?! Halloween will be here before we know it and whether you’re staying home or having a full on party, these shots are sure to get everyone in the spooky spirit!
I made these shots a little different than my normal shots because I wanted to be able to really see the layers and the face. Instead of making them in 2 ounce shot cups like normal, I made them in a pan with two layers. This recipe is also what many people call “finger jello” because it’s a little firmer so you can actually pick it up and eat it with you hands. To make finger jello you use knox gelatin powder with the regular jello, which makes it firmer and thicker. As always with layered jello shots, remember to let the first layer fully set before adding the top layer!
How to decorate Frankenstein Jello Shots
To decorate these little guys you will need candy eyes and black food coloring. I actually made my own eyes with flat circle sprinkles that I had on hand instead of going out an buying some! You can make your own using food coloring to paint on the eyes, or food safe markers if you have them. I then used food coloring to paint on the mouths. Be sure to wait until you’re ready to serve before decorating, as the sprinkles will start to slide around and dissolve on top of the jello a little after awhile!
I used regular black food coloring. Put a few drops in a small bowl, ramekin etc. and then use a small, clean, paintbrush. If you have gel food coloring you could thin it out a tad with a drop of vodka. Just a tiny drop should do it! If it’s too thin, the colors will run.
Serve up these cute Frankenstein Jello shots for a spooky Halloween adult treat! For the green layer: Make the purple/black layer: Slice and decorate: Jello can be sliced ahead of time, but I would recommend waiting until you're ready to serve it to decorate. The candy eyes tend to start dissolving when they get wet from the jello and then they start sliding around! Be sure to keep the jello in the fridge until you're ready to serve it so the layers stay nice and together and the jello stays firm!
