Toddler moms listen up. Pull up a chair, grab a notepad and read this post. Because the busy board will change your life. I’m being dramatic, but it’s so true.
I’ve seen these on Pinterest, but no one gives any real directions on how to make them (that I’ve found) so I kind of just
made it up as I went along. I am not super handy and I wanted to create
an easy way to do this. So, I decided to try using a peg board! I
figured it would be easy to switch stuff around and reuse it for other
things later this way. Since the board was really big, I had them cut in half at the store- they do up to three cuts free per customer! (at Home Depot and Lowe’s)

So I started off with the thought of adding switches and latches for him to play with, he loves light switches! I also bought one of those door stoppers that goes “boiiiing” Then, while wondering around the store, I came across the plumbing section, and on a whim I bought 2 small PVC pipes! I am so glad I did because he absolutely loves playing with the pipes and dropping stuff into them!
I attached everything with zip ties. This was easiest to me because none of the pieces matched exactly with the holes in the board. Also, it will be super easy to move things around, add things or remove everything and make a totally different kind of board later. Plus, I got the whole container of them for $2 on sale, so that helps, too!
“Hey ma! This is how you do it!”
Perfect form.
Carter loved the busy board and keeps going back to it, even a week later. As you can see, he got into the zip ties container and began dropping those into his pipe, too!
There is a lot of open space on the board to add new things. I also didn’t want to go overboard buying a bunch stuff just in case he wasn’t so into it. I might add a few more pipes to the board at some time!
Do you have a board like this for your kid? What other things would you add?
Here is how long this activity took:
Busy Board: anywhere from 5 minutes up to 45 minutes per sitting.
Next week I will share our indoor sandbox!
