This weekend was my husband’s birthday and we had a big birthday extravaganza! None of our babysitters were available, so we ended up bringing Carter with us everywhere, but it worked out okay.
One of the places we went to was the Yards brewery in North Philly! It’s one of the oldest breweries in the country and they even feature historical beers which were recipes from some of our founding fathers! I personally don’t like beer all that much, but I did enjoy the Poor Richards Tavern Spruce Ale, which is made with spruce clippings and has an easy flavor. It was also a recipe created by Ben Franklin! My husband’s favorite was the Saison, which is their seasonal spring ale.
As soon as we got there Carter wanted to get out of his stroller and party. He was all like “beeeeeer” and grabby at our free samples they gave us at the door. By the way, the tour is free and they give you tons of free samples! One when you walk in and then several on the tour as well!
I stood behind the guys on the tour with Carter so he wouldn’t annoy anyone. He was pretty good for most of it though! Our tour guide was pretty funny, I think he’s a comedian on the side (or at least he thinks he is!)! That room behind the barrels is the masher room which is apparently highly explosive, but the room is fortified so no need to worry! Our tour guide kept reminding us how dangerous beer making was.
Cheers! I was the DD so I kept myself to only one free sample. Luckily for my DD status they didn’t have the Pynk Berry Ale available!
Towards the end of the tour Carter really really wanted daddy to hold him and he kept grabbing his chin, cheeks and ears!

After our tour we sat in the tasting room and had lunch from the food truck outside. The guys got birthday flights and decided on the Revolutionary Flight. I got a soda from the food truck and Carter got really bored. Thankfully it was very loud in there with all the people drinking so no one except us noticed Carter!
Overall I really liked the brewery! The tour was great and who could pass up free samples? The tasting room was very relaxed and fun. I can’t wait to go back and try the Pynk Berry Ale later in the summer (it’s only available August – October)!
