This week we will embark on the longest car ride we have ever taken Carter on, and needless to say I am a little nervous! We decided to dived the trip over two days to cut down on the length of time continuously sitting in the car and hopefully that will help! Beyond that I’ve been doing some thinking on how to make a road trip with kids a little easier and here are five tips I came up with!
1. Keep snacks handy! Bring several and more single serve snacks ready to go in baggies or tupperware and keep them in a bag near you so aren’t fishing around while your kid is screaming asking politely for food!
2. Activity bags! Pack activity bags to hand your kid so they have a new thing to do every so often. Having them bagged separately keeps everything organized and creates some novelty as each baggie contains a new surprise! I am also throwing in a new toy for a big surprise!
3. Load up the iPad! My son loves to play games and watch videos on the iPad! Add a few new things on there right before your trip for extra fun. And don’t forget to charge it up the night before! No one likes a dead iPad.
4. Bubbles! Brings bubbles for the rest stop to have an easy and fun activity! Your kids can burn off some excess energy and get a little exercise running around chasing the bubbles!
5. Create busy books! I have a quiet book I made with felt a few months back. For an easier DIY you could create activity pages to print out and laminate and let your kids write or draw on the pages with dry erase markers!
I’d love to know- What are your tips for traveling with kids?
This month’s super sponsor:
I hope your trip is fantastic. You sound well prepared. : )
my mom used to have surprise bags for us on car rides full of snack and activities. that was one of the best parts of the trip and i hope i can pull that off for my little luke, too! good luck on your trip! great tips!
I am loving the activity bag idea! Since I usually make a snack bag for our road trips (for the grown ups) I feel like an activity bag is the next logical step. The only thing is, in my OLD age, I can no longer read in the car!! hahahaha groan
iPad, phones, old phones – wrote about this in the fall. And KidzBop CD may be torture for us, but hey, if it keeps the fussiness down, it's music to my ears!
I love the idea of bubbles! I never thought of bringing them along on a car trip.
The Ipad is always our friend I like the activity bags, we hate road trips with our son, an hour in the car feels like an eternity.
These are such good ideas! I especially love the bubbles for rest stops. I remember when I was little I always had felt dolls and sticker activity books.
I never thought of the bubble idea! Could also be a good incentive to make them get out of the car and use the potty.
I mean, really, how did we ever travel before iPads?!?!?!
when my kids were little, we would leave at like 4am on trips because I knew everyone would sleep until around 7 so I would get a good 3 hours of driving in before the insanity started.
We go on a lot of car trips. I will have to try bubbles next time!
have a great trip. looks like your all set
Never thought of bubbles!!!! I'll have to use that for our trip to Myrtle Beach next month!
Great Tips. Have a fun trip!
