Miami Vice jello shots are a fun summer treat! These shots also use Gel-Shotz gelatin, which they sent to me to try out!
I discovered the Miami Vice cocktail on our first cruise and I couldn’t get enough! This is definitely my favorite kind of daiquiri. For those who don’t know, the Miami Vice is a daiquiri that is half strawberry and half pina colada. It’s delicious and I knew I had to make it into a jello shot.
I’ve been planning to make the Miami Vice jello shot for awhile but I was stuck on the pina colada layer! The easy solution would be to use pineapple jello with coconut rum, which you can obviously do here and still make a delicious shot. However, I do think it lacks a lot of that really coco-nutty flavor that a pina colada has if you do it this way. Enter Gel-Shotz. Gel-shotz is a brand that makes gelatin shot mixes that mimic certain cocktails, including pina colada! This was the perfect solution to my Miami Vice dilemma. They sent me a few boxes of their gelatin to try out and I knew I wanted to use it for this recipe!
While I certainly prefer to make all my shots myself, without having any coconut Jello this one was pretty hard to do! So I’m glad I found Gel-Shotz and I can use their shots to incorporate into my own recipes for various cocktail concoctions! You can find Gel-Shotz on amazon (my affiliate link) or on their own website! They’re out of pina colada as of the time this post is published, but hopefully it’ll be back in stock soon!
Remember when making layered shots to let the first layer fully set before adding the second layer, or they will just blend together. It’s also important to let the mixture for the second layer cool a little before pouring it over the first layer. If it’s too hot it will start to melt the first layer and your layers will become uneven or even just mix together fully!
How to make Miami Vice Jello Shots
Serve and enjoy! I typically make my shots with half water and half alcohol. However, the instructions for the Gel-Shotz said to use 1/2 cup alcohol and 1 1/2 cups water. For that layer I wanted to make sure I followed the package instructions to make sure it worked properly, so that's why they are each a little different ratios.
