Hot Chocolate jello shots are a delicious and creamy boozy treat!
Holiday time is the perfect excuse to get creative in the kitchen! What’s better than sipping on a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the fireplace? How about turning that beloved winter classic into an adult treat – Hot Chocolate Jello Shots. These little cups of joy are a fun, flavorful way to warm up during those frosty evenings, or enjoy any time!
Hot Chocolate Jello Shots are the adult version of your favorite childhood drink, and they bring a whole new level of comfort. Picture yourself wrapped in a fuzzy blanket, toes snug in warm socks, and a plate of these delightful treats in your hand. It’s the epitome of coziness.
These shots are very creamy and chocolatey. They are smooth like a chocolate mousse, with a pop of whipped cream taste from the vodka.
How to make Hot Chocolate Jello Shots
These shots use actual hot chocolate as the base. The list of ingredients is short and they are so easy to make!
For the alcohol: For the alcohol I used whipped cream vodka. It pairs really nicely with the chocolate flavor. You could also use vanilla vodka, or, if you can find it, chocolate vodka. Chocolate vodka would work really well, but it is hard to find and it seems that some places only sell it seasonally, so I went with whipped cream!
For the topping: I topped my shots with whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles and mini marshmallow bits. You can find these tiny marshmallows in your store’s baking section. I got them at Target, but I’m sure they sell them in other stores as well. Here they are on amazon! (affiliate link). Remember to only add the decorations when you are ready to serve the shots, as the whipped cream will melt if you do it too far ahead of time.
For the hot chocolate: I used regular Swiss Miss hot chocolate. You can use whatever brand you want!
Tips for using Knox gelatin in Hot Chocolate Jello Shots
When using knox (or similar unflavored gelatin) be sure to let the gelatin bloom before boiling the water. To do this you first sprinkle to gelatin over the water and allow the powder to fill with water and plump up. This help the gelatin dissolve better and, in turn, it work better in your recipe. You will also have less lumps this way.
Alternately, you could mix the gelatin powder in with the hot chocolate powder before adding the boiling water. This method works fine, too, but you might end up with some streaks in your final shots. It doesn’t affect the taste, either way, so it’s really up to you.
