The Perfect Storm

The past two weeks have been quite crazy, to say the least!  As you might have seen in previous posts, we bought a house!  So last week was spent getting prepared to move in, including packing and cleaning our old rental house, removing wallpaper and painting in our new house, meeting electricians, cable guys and the new carpet installers!  Not to mention, last Friday was my last day of work.  So, I spent a lot of time last week wrapping up things for my job, finalizing midterm grades etc.  Needless to say, it was a busy/stressful week.
Then something else happened!  On Thursday last week I was driving Carter to day care when I noticed some smoke coming out from my hood.  I pulled over (on the side of a busy road that already had a ton of traffic, oops) and grabbed Carter out of the car.  I safely stashed his car seat up on the person’s yard where I pulled over, because what else do you do?  I popped open the hood, with the help of a good Samaritan stranger, and we saw FLAMES!!!  Flames in my engine!  I slammed the hood shut and the stranger said “ummmm maybe we should move a little further away.”  We called 911 and the firetruck came to put it out, but it was too late.  A few days later my insurance company went to inspect the car and said it was “totaled.”
On Saturday morning we went to clean the car out and you could still very strongly smell the smoke on the inside of the car.  The fire didn’t make it to the interior, but there was a lot of smoke damage and water everywhere from putting the fire out!  Sadly, we couldn’t get any of my CDs out of the CD player so once again I lost my favorite CDs (the first time being 2 years ago when our car was totaled in a crash we had on black ice in Canada, yeah we have bad luck with cars)!!

R.I.P car.  I think this picture doesn’t show how bad it really was.  But, we couldn’t even pop the hood to take a picture inside.  Also, the windshield was cracked from the heat!  In case you were wondering, my car was a 2009 Passat.
Later that day my husband was bite by a dog. (don’t worry, he’s okay!)

Enough with the bad and now time for some good!

So, on Sunday we moved to our new house! Woohoo!  All week I have been working on unpacking and getting “settled in.”  It’s taking a little longer than expected but that’s ok!  Especially since I am not working any more, I have more time to fix everything up the way I want!
I am also shopping around for a new car!  I am between a Honda CRV and a Nissan Rogue.  I had the Rogue before and I really liked it so I might just go with that one again!  We’ll see what we can get a better deal on.
I also participated in Post Exchange with justjacq this month!  My partner was the very cool and sweet Kelly from The No Mama Drama!  She sent me a sweet note (which I forgot to take a picture of and is still packed in some random box somewhere) AND she sent me a pack of handmade bows from her shop!  Since I have a son, not a daughter I tried to think of how I could use the bows.  So, I clipped one onto his shirt like a bow tie and he loved it!  He kept reaching for another one and then putting it on his shirt like he was trying to clip it on!  So we ended up with all four bow “ties” clipped onto his shirt, which was so cute!  Thanks Kelly! (also I kind of feel bad because I didn’t send her anything besides a note- sorry Kelly)
Bow ties from Kelly!
And what Friday would be complete without a Friday Fancies?  This week’s theme is “city style” which is kind of hard for me because my city doesn’t really have a distinct fashion style of it’s own!  People just kind of dress how they want and everyone has their own different styles!  So my outfit today will be a fun fall outfit you could wear around Philly!

And that’s all for today! Be sure to check out Long Distance Loving for other “city style” outfits, and justjacq for the post exchange info!
