It’s time to celebrate Mardi Gras with a fun party favorite! These layered jello shots use the traditional Mardi Gras colors, making them perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras.
How to make Mardi Gras Jello Shots
For these shots I went with the colors of Mardi Gras: purple, yellow and green! I wanted the layers to stand out so I went with jello shots in a pan instead of individual shot cups. But, if you prefer shot cups you can do it that way as well, just omit the knox in each layer! I added a packet of Knox gelatin to each layer to help the layers stay firm and stand up when I cut the shots into cubes. Some people call this type of jello “finger jello” because you can just pick it up in eat it with your fingers!
I used whipped cream vodka to make most of my jello shots. For this recipe you could also use cake flavored vodka for a “King Cake” theme, or vanilla flavored vodka would go nicely. You could also keep it to a fruit theme and go with a citrus flavor such as lemon or lime! I chose not to decorate, but you could also add a dollop of whipped cream with some festive sprinkles to give your shots some extra flair. Just be sure to add the whipped cream right before serving, as it doesn’t stay well on the shots if you do it ahead of time.
Don’t forget when you’re making layered shots to give each layer time to set before adding the next one. If you do it too soon you risk melting the old layer when you pour in the new, warmer, layer. Since these layers are so thick, I gave them each 3-4 hours to set in the fridge before moving on. So, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to make these shots ahead of your party!
